Office 365 Multi Factor Authentication

Authentication Methods

Go to OWA administrative portal. In the lower left pane, click Show More. Choose Azure Active Directory. Click on the tab the opens. In the left pane under ‘Azure Active Directory’ open the ‘Protect and Secure’ drop down and choose Authentication methods. In the main pane ensure ‘Policies’ is chosen. The available multi-factor methods are shown and can be enabled or disabled and can be assigned to all users or select groups.

To update the mfa phone number of a user In Azure AD, in the left pane under ‘Azure Active Directory’ open the ‘Users’ drop down and choose ‘All users’. All the users will be displayed in the main pane. Click the user that needs the mfa phone number changed. On the next screen, enter a phone number, an alternate phone number, and/or an email address. These methods will be used to send a verification code to the user while logging in.

Authentication Methods per User

Sign into Office 365 web portal and click on Outlook. In the Outlook interface click the initials circle in the upper right. Under the user’s name, click ‘View Account’. In the window that opens, click the ‘Security info’ tile (or the security info item in the menu in the left pane). The next window shows enabled sign in mfa methods, and the ability to add more with the ‘Add sign-in method’ link. The available sign in methods are determined by following the directions in the previous section.
